Embarking on a 21-day or 28-day intensive Yoga Teacher Training is a thrilling milestone. For many, it is a life-changing pilgrimage of self-discovery. But let's be honest—it is also a demanding athletic and academic endeavor. Spending 8 to 10 hours a day practicing asanas, studying anatomy, adjusting peers, and reciting philosophy in the tropical climate of Bali requires deliberate preparation.
To ensure you arrive in Ubud feeling confident, centered, and physically ready, our lead alignment specialist Sachin Rautela has compiled this ultimate preparation guide.
1. Preparing Your Physical Body
You do not need to be able to perform advanced balances to join our course—we specialize in teaching beginners. However, you do need physical stamina. In the weeks leading up to your flight:
- Consistent Gentle Practice: Aim for 3 to 4 slow, steady practices a week, focusing on spinal flexibility and joint mobility.
- Build Joint Strength: Pay extra attention to wrist preparation (gentle wrist rolls and forearm stretches) and hamstring length, as you will be doing plenty of downward-facing dogs.
- Hydrate and Rest: Start drinking plenty of clean water and prioritizing 8 hours of sleep to bolster your nervous system before entering an intensive routine.
2. The Essential Ubud Packing List
Ubud is a beautiful tropical jungle town, meaning it is warm, humid, and occasionally rainy. While our campus provides all premium yoga props (corks, straps, bolsters), here is what you should pack in your suitcase:
- Light, Breathable Fabrics: Pack organic cotton or moisture-wicking activewear. Avoid thick, synthetic fabrics that trap heat in the shala.
- Temple Attire: At least two sets of clothing that cover your shoulders and knees. This is strictly required for our sacred excursions to Tirta Empul and local ceremonies.
- Natural Insect Repellent & Sunscreen: Eco-friendly options are best to protect Bali's delicate river ecosystems.
- A Solid Journal: You will be taking down profound philosophical concepts, emotional breakthroughs, and sequencing notes. A physical, hardbound journal is highly recommended.
3. Understanding Visa Logistics
For most international students, entering Indonesia is straightforward. You can apply for a standard 30-day Visa on Arrival (VoA) online (e-VoA) or directly at the Denpasar airport terminal. This visa costs approximately IDR 500,000 (about €30) and can be extended once for an additional 30 days if you plan to travel around the beautiful islands after graduation.
Ubud is a vortex of transformation. The moment your feet touch the warm volcanic soil, you will feel the spiritual energy of this island calling you to grow.
4. Mental and Emotional Preparation
The most important preparation is mental. An intensive YTT is an emotional journey. As you decompress muscular layers and blockages, old emotional patterns often arise. Arrive with an open mind, a willingness to be vulnerable, and a commitment to support your fellow yogis. You are not just joining a school; you are entering a lifelong global family.
We are excited to welcome you to our Ubud jungle sanctuary. Pack light, open your heart, and get ready for a beautiful transformation!
