What does it actually feel like to spend 21 or 28 days immersed in a yoga teacher training in Ubud? It is a question many aspiring teachers ask before arriving at our sanctuary. Intensive training is a beautiful mixture of physical challenge, philosophical expansion, and deep communal bonding. Here is a look at a typical day of a yoga teacher trainee under the tropical canopy of our Ubud shala.

06:15 AM – Pranic Awakening and Meditation

The day begins before the sun fully clears the Ubud tree line. Trainees gather in the open-air bamboo shala, wrapped in light shawls as the morning mist rises from the nearby river ravine. We begin with Shatkriyas (yogic cleansing techniques) followed by Pranayama (breath control) and silent meditation. The cool jungle air is perfect for expanding breath cycles and calming the monkey mind before physical practice.

07:00 AM – Ashtanga Vinyasa Practice

With our minds quiet and our lungs active, we move into a dynamic 2-hour Ashtanga Vinyasa practice. The shala heats up as we flow through sun salutations, standing postures, and seated adjustments. Lead teachers walk the room, offering safe, alignment-focused adjustments. It is a demanding practice, but the energy of the group carries everyone through.

09:00 AM – Sattvic Breakfast

After three hours of morning practice, we gather for a fresh farm-to-table vegetarian buffet. Fresh papayas, tropical dragon fruit, house-made granola, organic eggs, and traditional Balinese herbal teas are served. This nourishing breakfast provides the perfect clean fuel to recover and prepare for our theory classes.

10:00 AM – Philosophy and the Yoga Sutras

Yoga is far more than physical exercise. In the mid-morning, we dive into yoga philosophy. We dissect Patanjali’s Eight Limbs of Yoga, translating ancient Sanskrit sutras into practical, modern choices. These discussions often spark deep personal realizations. For a preview of what you will study, see our article on the 8 Limbs of Yoga Explained.

01:00 PM – Lunch and Midday Rest

A long lunch break allows students to relax, swim in our sanctuary pool, write in their journals, or nap. Rest is a crucial, often overlooked part of the YTT experience. It prevents physical burnout and gives the mind time to integrate the teachings.

02:00 PM – Anatomy and Teaching Methodology

The afternoon is hands-on. We break down the mechanics of skeletal alignment, muscle activation, and common injuries. Then, students pair up for teaching methodology—learning how to voice alignment cues, sequence a class, and teach with confidence from day one. You will find that you start teaching your peers from the very first week, building confidence step-by-step.

04:30 PM – Sunset Meditation and Yin Yoga

As the afternoon heat softens, we cool down with a gentle Yin or Restorative class, focused on deep tissue release. We close the day's study with a sunset meditation, letting the sounds of the jungle soothe our nervous systems. We also organize special experiential workshops and jungle excursions, like sound healing and water temple purification ceremonies, during these afternoon blocks.

06:30 PM – Dinner and Evening Rest

We close the day with a healthy dinner buffet. Trainees sit under the stars, laughing, sharing stories, and bonding. By 9:00 PM, the shala is quiet as students head to bed, resting up for another beautiful day of transformation.
